The Tree in the Park

Tree painted with flash

Same tree that I shot the other day. On this morning I was shooting about an hour after dawn, facing east, and since there were only thin clouds, I had a little trouble controlling the sky … keeping it dark. My flash acceptable shutter speed was maxed out at 1/250th while shooting at f/8. Going to f/11 will help, but stopping down more than that strains the capacity of my two little speedlights. And for sure, shooting away from the brightening sky would be smart.

Why I love summer mornings

I usually take a lot of grief for my love of summers high temps and humidity. But, I’m a morning person and my camera gets super excited when dawn breaks hot and hazy. These were shot in a nearby natural park where I went intending to do some light painting. I’ll go back to ‘paint’ the tree with some strobe, but this morning there was no improving on what the sun was doing.
